Derrick Rose and the Cleveland Cavaliers hold mutual interest and have set up a face to face meeting for later today.

Amidst all the drama surrounding point guard Kyrie Irving, the Cavaliers have held ongoing discussions with free agent Derrick Rose.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was first with reports of the meeting.

According to ESPN, Rose and the Cavaliers have engaged in talks around a one-year, $2.1 million deal.

Though he met with the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, the former MVP is apparently leaning towards a deal with Cleveland.

Rose is coming off one season with the New York Knicks, where he averaged 18 points and 4.4 assists. At 28 -years-old, he’s looking to play with a contender in hopes of boosting his trade value.

It’s interesting that the meeting comes right in the middle of trade talks surrounding the Cavaliers’ current point guard.

The interest between the two sides is mutual, and a deal will likely be struck regardless of Irving’s status.
