After not winning one single series out of their last ten, the New York Yankees finally came through taking three out of four in Seattle.

  • New York Yankees (51-46): 6
  • Seattle Mariners (49-51): 4
  • American League, FINAL, Box Score
  • Safeco Field, Seattle, WA

Caleb Smith‘s first career start didn’t last quite as long as he may have hoped, but the New York Yankees bared down and got a win. Didi Gregorius smacked two homers for his first career multi-homer game.

Brett Gardner got the “Gardy Party” going early today when he crushed the second pitch of the ballgame into the right field seats to give the Yankees an early 1-0 lead. Gardner’s homer was his 17th of the season.

The Mariners went down quietly in the first two innings, but the Yanks didn’t fail to add to their lead in the Top of the second inning. Didi Gregorius lined one down the right field line and into the seats for his 13th homer of the season. Didi’s bomb was indeed a solo shot which gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead.

The third inning was very quiet for both teams, but it seemed to be the calm before the storm. Didi Gregorius the very next at bat launched another shot into the left field seats for his second homer of the game, and 14th homer of the year. Didi once again hit a solo homer and added another run to the Yankees lead making it 3-0.

Caleb Smith surrendered just one hit entering the fourth inning, but that wouldn’t stand for long. The Mariners exploded in the fourth inning thanks to a couple of cheap base hits. Ben Gamel continued his vengeance run against the Yankees when he lined a base hit just over Torreyes’s head and into right field for a two-RBI single. The Mariners were not done yet, Guillermo Heredia laced a two-out two-run double into the left field gap to give the Mariners a 4-3 lead.

The Yankees would not lie down to a little controversy as they responded to the challenge in the 6th inning. Brett Gardner continued his very clutch play when he lined a bases loaded single down the left field line and out of the reach of Yankee killer Ben Gamel to tie the game at 4. The Yankees did not stop there, Clint Frazier lined a clutch double into left field driving in two runs and gave the Yankees a 6-4 lead in the sixth inning.

The Bombers would turn the game over to their bullpen, and would not be disappointed. Chad Green looked absolutely dominant, David Robertson did his job, and although Aroldis Chapman did look shaky again, he also got the job done. The Yankees would win the ballgame and the four game series by a score a 6-4.

CLINT FRAZIER REFUSES TO BE SENT DOWN:

Red Thunder has responded viciously after hearing that he will be sent down once Aaron Hicks returns. Although Frazier seems to be a favorite of Joe Girardi’s, Brian Cashman seems to have other plans.

YANKS FINALLY WIN A SERIES:

After not winning a series since the second week in June, it is a huge weight off their shoulders to take this 4-Game series. Both Boston and Tampa Bay lost tonight, which moves the Yankees only two and a half games back of first place in the east.

WHAT’S NEXT:

The Yanks get the day off tomorrow and will head back to the Bronx to start a 2-game series with the Cincinnati Reds.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET and will be telecasted on the YES Network and broadcasted on WFAN 660/101.9 FM.
