Mets prospect Amed Rosario, widely regarded as one of baseball’s best prospects, was hospitalized Saturday following a five-game absence from Triple-A Las Vegas.
The news was broken by Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Review-Journal after Rosario’s manager Pedro Lopez, discussed that the shortstop has been dealing with stomach issues.
Per Helfand, Lopez believed that Rosario might have eaten something in Denver, where the team had a layover on its way to Memphis on Friday and was vomiting after the team arrived.
Fans have complained that the Mets haven’t called up Rosario, and his stats show exactly why. The 21-year-old is batting .330 over 364 at-bats with the 51’s this year and has posted 54 RBI and 17 stolen bases
One theory, floated by the Bergen Record‘s Bob Klapisch, is that the Mets have delayed promoting Rosario to shelter him from conflicts with veteran infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, The team has since rejected that idea.
