The New York Knicks still haven’t started up talks with the Houston Rockets about Carmelo Anthony again. Although, he wants out.

Carmelo Anthony doesn’t want to be a member of the New York Knicks anymore. That much is clear. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that despite New York putting trade talks with the Rockets on pause the ten-time All-Star has no interest in being reincorporated to the Knicks young roster.

Steve Mills suggested during Monday’s team press conference that the team is ready to move on with or without Anthony. He also said that the Knicks would not buy out Melo’s contract.

Marc Berman of The New York Post reports that New York has not restarted trade talks with the Rockets. This suggests that even though Anthony remains committed to leaving, New York wants to get the best deal possible for him.

The Knicks want to build back up the trade value that Phil Jackson destroyed. It makes sense. It won’t be easy, though. Anthony wants to play with his buddy Chris Paul and form a big three along with James Harden.

Per Berman, the Rockets are “undeterred” by the pending sale of the team. They still want Anthony on the team. He still has a lot of money left on his deal, but Houston’s never been shy about paying up.

Despite all the conflicting reports, it looks like it’s only a matter of time until a deal gets done with Anthony and Houston. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
