Just one night after the New York Yankees offense lay dormant at the hands of the Minnesota Twins, they found their groove.

One five-run inning later and the Yankees offense was back on track, leading the Yankees to a win in Game Two of this three-game set on the road.

It all started off with the Yankees facing off against one of their own; former Yankee and forever-loved New York icon Bartolo Colon. And Colon shut them down 1-2-3 to start the game. On nine pitches.

Well, that’s not the way to start the game on a high note. Then Luis Cessa took the mound and immediately loaded the bases with two walks and a hit by pitch. Luckily, Cessa escaped while allowing only one run on a walk.

The Twins added another run in the third off a solo home run from All-Star Miguel Sano, making it 2-0 in favor of the home team.

Hearing all the rumors surrounding Todd Frazier’s likely trade to the Bronx, Chase Headley stepped up in the top of the fourth. He laced an RBI single to cut the deficit to one for the struggling Yankees offense.

The Twins added one more run in the bottom of the inning, chasing Cessa from the game after 3.2 innings pitched. With Chasen Shreve coming on in relief, he kept the game at 3-1 for the Yankees.

And that was all they needed to get going. The Yankees made the fifth inning and Colon their daddy by putting up a five-spot to go up 6-3.

Gary Sanchez started the scoring with a two-run double to tie the game. Aaron Judge followed up with a single to break out of his slump while also scoring Sanchez.

The big blow from the inning came off the bat of Didi Gregorius. He went from bunting in a crucial eighth inning situation to smacking a two-run home run to pad the lead.

From that moment on, the Yankees put the game on cruise control. Shreve finished off his outing and Adam Warren came in for two scoreless, hitless innings.

Dellin Betances made his way into the game in the bottom of the eighth inning and still seemed to struggle with command. After loading the bases with two outs, Betances forced Zach Granite to line out to centerfield to end the threat.

Of course, the well-rested Aroldis Chapman made his appearance in the bottom of the ninth. Just like the contract calls for, Chapman nailed down the save to give the Yankees Game Two.

What’s Next:

The Yankees look to get their first series win since their sweep of Baltimore in early June. Facing off against the Twins at Target Field for a Wednesday matinee, the Yankees send rookie phenom Jordan Montgomery to the mound.

Montgomery is 6-4 on the season with a 3.78 ERA. Montgomery’s last start was short, as he only went four innings in the Yankees devastating 5-4 loss to the Red Sox.

The Twins counter Montgomery with 23-year-old right-hander Jose Berrios, who is 8-3 on the season. Despite the impressive record, Berrios’ last outing found him pitching only 1.2 innings and giving up seven runs, two earned.
