The Yankees sent LHP Tyler Webb from their Triple-A Scranton squad out to Milwaukee, reported by Ken Rosenthal. Mere minutes later, it was confirmed by Jeff Passan that Triple-A first baseman Garrett Cooper would be the return investment.
Webb is a 26-year-old reliever who has pitched to a 3-1 record with a 3.24 ERA in 21 games this season. He also got a stint in the majors, pitching in seven games this season for the Yankees.
Cooper is an interesting piece to add to the Yankees puzzle. He’ll provide assurance at first base after being blocked in the Brewers organization. With so many troubles at first for the Yankees, he’ll fit right in.
A 26-year-old who can play multiple positions, Cooper serves as another Tyler Austin, who recently made a trip to the disabled list. While he hasn’t had a major league stint yet, he is tearing it up with the Brewers in Triple-A, slugging a .366/.428/.652 line.
Cooper will not start in the pinstripes but has been assigned to the Scranton-Wilkes/Barre Railriders.
