The New York Rangers made a big move in hiring veteran coach Lindy Ruff today to help further shape their coaching staff this offseason.
It’s official! The New York Rangers have hired 57-year-old Lindy Ruff today as assistant coach . He will replace Jeff Beukeboom and be responsible for the defenseman on the team.
Ruff should be excited with the recent acquisitions the Rangers have picked up. He now gets to work with Ryan McDonagh, Kevin Shattenkirk, Brady Skjei and Brendan Smith on the Ranger’s blueline.
The extensive knowledge that Ruff brings to the team should make the Rangers defense stronger in front of G Henrik Lundqvist.
Ruff coached the Dallas Stars last season but came to mutual decision with management that he would not be back for the upcoming season.
Ruff is widely known for serving as the head coach of the Buffalo Sabres from 1997 through the 2012-13 season, leading the Sabres to 571 wins. Here is the official release from the New York Rangers:
