According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the New York Knicks are nearing contract talks with former Cavs general manager David Griffin.
The New York Knicks appear to be zeroing in on a new head of basketball operations. That guy is former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin.According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Griffin had a dinner meeting with team president Steve Mills and talks “are progressing toward opening contract negotiations” that would make Griffin the new Knicks general manager. Griffin is also expected to meet with owner James Dolan in the near future.
Per Woj, Mills is expected to take over the title of president following the departure of Phil Jackson while Griffin would take over basketball operations.
Apparently, a “stumbling block” could be Griffin’s desire to bring in his own people to New York’s front office. The Knicks, and Mills, would likely want Griffin to keep the ones that are already in place.
According to Woj, Griffin has a “trusted inner circle” of front office people that he’d like to bring with him. That request is not unreasonable. It’s what any general manager would want.
However, this is the Knicks and negotiations could fall apart at any minute.
