The New York Knicks announced today that they are waiving veteran big man Marshall Plumlee. The move was made to create cap space.
Marshall Plumlee will no longer report to Madison Square Garden for home games. The New York Knicks announced they had released Plumlee in a press release early this morning.
This comes after the news that the Knicks will sign RFA Tim Hardaway Jr. to a mega offer sheet in a move that many fans have questioned. The Knicks needed to create cap space and waiving Plumlee opens up some room for the Knicks to offer Hardaway Jr. a deal.
Plumlee was signed by the Knicks during the 2016-17 season after an impressive showing in Summer League. He had numerous stints in Weschester last season for the team’s G-League affiliate and also played in 21 games in the NBA.
Plumlee struggled to see the floor due to a crowded Knick frontcourt. During these 21 games, Plumlee averaged 1.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.2 blocks per game in eight minutes.
Expect Plumlee to catch on with another team in the Summer League before the season starts.
