According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, the Dallas Mavericks are interested in Knicks free agent target Derrick Rose.

The Knicks and Mavericks picked seventh and eighth in the 2017 NBA Draft. Both teams selected point guards, Frank Ntilikina (Knicks) and Dennis Smith Jr. (Mavs), and they’re both looking at a veteran to help mentor them in 2017-18. The guy, both teams, are looking at is Derrick Rose.

According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, both teams are looking at the former MVP. Rose is one of the best lead guards remaining and a clear target.

Rose didn’t click in New York with Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to bring him back.

The Knicks are leaning more towards tanking next season, but Dallas doesn’t go that route. They still have Dirk Nowitzki and don’t want to lose 50 games. New York is more comfortable with that.

Steve Mills and his front office staff have other options. None of them are exceptional, however. Shelvin Mack is a career backup and Rajon Rondo‘s best days are behind him. Mack can’t shoot and Rondo proved last season that he’s no longer a starter.

We’ll keep you updated on the latest in Derrick Rose’s free agency and New York’s point guard situation as the summer continues.
