Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that Dion Waiters is “inching closer” to a decision on his free agency status. The Knicks are in the mix.
The status of free agent shooting guard Dion Waiters is still up in the air, but the Knicks are very much in the mix. It sounds like the polarizing player will make a decision sooner rather than later.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Waiters is “inching closer to resolution” concerning his decision. Woj lists the Knicks, Heat, and Lakers among the three teams under consideration.
The Knicks have been interested in Waiters for years. General manager Steve Mills attempted to trade for the 25-year-old back when he was a Knick.
Waiters played for the Heat last season, and they helped him have the best season of his career. There’s also the Pat Riley factor.
New Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka was Dion’s agent before he quit to join the front office world.
It sounds like Miami and Los Angeles have the inside track. However, Waiters was born in Philadelphia and went to high school in New Jersey before playing one year at Syracuse University in New York.
He’s used to New York and Madison Square Garden may be an attraction for him.
