The Brooklyn Nets and Otto Porter Jr. have reached agreement on a four-year max contract worth over $100 million.
Otto Porter has been the top priority off-season signing for Brooklyn since the start of the summer. A restricted free agent, Porter’s offer can be matched by the Wizards anytime between now and 11:59 pm on Saturday.Originally drafted with the 3rd overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, Porter has grown into one of the league’s top three-point shooters in just four seasons.
Shams Charania of The Vertical was the first to report the deal, settled at $106 million over four years.
There’s no sign to indicate the Washington Wizards won’t match, but it would be wise to rethink a one-hundred million dollar contract in any case.
For the Brooklyn Nets, the small forward position is their biggest need, after completing their backcourt with the addition of D’Angelo Russell.
Last year with the Wizards, Porter averaged 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals and shot 43% from behind-the-arc.
Should Washington opt to prepare for a John Wall exit, they may let Porter go, and push their cap towards expiring contracts and draft picks. However, the feel around the league is that they will do everything to keep Otto on the roster.
Porter would be the most optimal free agent for the Brooklyn Nets, who have committed to a rebuild through young talent.
