After a very successful day in signing Kevin Shattenkirk, the New York Rangers still need to find a center.

The New York Rangers search for a center continues and the players who can fill that need are dwindling down. Two players that have been mention as a potential center’s to join the team both signed elsewhere.

Joe Thornton re-signed with the San Jose Sharks.  His former teammate, Patrick Marleau signed a three-year, $6.25 million contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The search for a center will continue as the organization weighs other options.

Kovalchuk Sets His Terms

Ilya Kovalchuk still has not made up his mind with regards to his return to the NHL. He right remains with the New Jersey Devils. Two things are known at this time. If he returns to the NHL, he wants a three-year contract at $6.5 million per year and he should make a decision by tomorrow.

Not sure if his asking price here is what the Rangers are willing to pay. The patience game has worked out well for Jeff Groton so far, so I would expect the same now.
