Phil Jackson seemed to want Derrick Rose back. With the Zen Master gone, a Rose return to the New York Knicks is reportedly a long shot.

Phil Jackson praised Derrick Rose during the same press conference in which he proclaimed his desire to push Carmelo Anthony out of town. With the Zen Master in charge, a return to the New York Knicks seemed possible for the former MVP. Jackson’s abrupt dismissal earlier this week makes a return less likely.

Jackson’s abrupt dismissal earlier this week has a return looking less and less likely.

According to Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News, “a reunion between the Knicks and Derrick Rose appears to be a long shot.” Rose’s aggressiveness on offense that led to points at the rim was a help to the team, but his lack of playmaking for others and constant defensive lapses outweighed the good.

With Jeff Teague reportedly on his way to Minnesota, it’s anyone’s guess as to where Derrick Rose ends up next season.

Per Bondy, the Knicks plan to re-sign reserve point guard and RFA Ron Baker. He’s a favorite of head coach Jeff Hornacek.
