Yesterday started the New York Rangers prospect camp where young hockey players are able to showcase their talents to the organization.

The calm before the storm that is free agency has begun with NHL organizations unable to finalize contracts until July 1. In the meantime, the New York Rangers have begun showcasing the young talent within the organization at the Rangers training facility in Greenburgh, NY.

Prospect camp will extend the entire week with player scrimmages beginning Wednesday. New York Rangers scouts and coaches will use these practices in order to determine who they feel has a good chance to make it the big show. GM Jeff Gorton has already indicated that the Blueshirts are attempting to rebuild on the fly. Keeping both first round picks in this years entry level draft proved his intentions.

The roster has many familiar names and several players drafted only a few short days prior to the start of prospect camp.

Among the notable names is the 2017 7th overall pick Lias Andersson and 21st overall pick Filip Chytil. Other familiar names include Sean Day, Ryan Gropp, and Neal Pionk, and Alexei Bereglazov.

All eyes are on the New York Rangers 2017 drafts picks as many criticized the Rangers for reaching to acquire the young players. Based on some of the videos posted on Monday, the Blueshirts are in good hands.

Highly coveted defensive prospect Neal Pionk discusses his offseason workout routine, including Yoga, in order to try and make the jump to the NHL. Pionk is a New York Ranger who is considered to have the talent to make a quick transition into the major league roster.

While many questions remain unanswered, namely who the New York Rangers try to acquire during free agency, the future of the organization is on display this week. The majority of the names listed above will remain unknown to most Rangers fan for years. However, keep your eyes and ears open or you may miss the next big New York Rangers superstar.
