ESNY brings the latest regarding the New York Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate’s roster moves on June 20, 2017’s edition of the “Bomber Buzz.”

The New York Yankees have had enough bad news, especially coming off an abysmal 1-6 West Coast swing, but more would come as their top prospect, Gleyber Torres, was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament. With that, the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders saw a roster shake-up.

Firstly, to replace Torres at the hot corner, third base prospect Miguel Andujar was called up from Double-A Trenton. New York’s ninth-best prospect was slashing .312/.342/.494 with seven homers and 52 RBIs in 67 games for the Thunder. Since he is on the 40-man and projected to have a fine Major League career, it will be interesting to see how the 22-year-old adjusts to the new level.

Domingo Acevedo, who is listed by Pipeline as the Yankees’ fifth-best pitching prospect, is also headed up the ladder as he, too, was promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In five starts for the Thunder, the 23-year-old righty went 2-0 with a 1.62 ERA including 31 strikeouts in 33.1 innings of work.

Lastly, right-handed pitcher Adonis Rosa was transferred from Triple-A down to Single-A Charleston and Giovanny Gallegos was placed on the seven-day disabled list (retroactive to June 16). The injury has yet to be announced.

Other Yankees’ Sources:

  • Andrew Marchand of ESPN reports that, despite everyone’s assumption that New York was grooming Torres to start at third base as soon as the All-Star break, general manager Brian Cashman disagreed with the notion that his top prospect was being groomed to take over the hot corner.
  • Christian Red of the New York Daily News reports that “given age and the type of injury,” Cashman expects veteran lefty CC Sabathia to miss “at least six weeks.” The 36-year-old, who posted a 0.99 ERA over his last six starts, will likely be out of action until the second half of 2017.
