New York Mets pitcher Noah “Thor” Syndergaard comes up with the worst nickname suggestions for players to use during Players Weekend.
Major League Baseball is relaxing its uniform rules for a weekend later this year and allowing players to put their nicknames on the back of their jerseys.

The event, which is called Players Weekend, will be Aug. 25 through Aug. 27. Players will have the option of wearing a jersey with a nickname and “inappropriate and offensive” nicknames are banned, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. Each jersey will have a patch with space for players to personalize. They can customize the space by writing the name of a person or an organization that was instrumental in his development.
New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard had some suggestions of nicknames for people to use. His suggestions for nicknames are “The Dude Abides” and “Captain Underpants.” His first choice is from the movie The Big Lebowski and is a reference to Ecclesiastes 1:4 in the Bible. It means that the dude can change the weather and chaos that’s around him while staying the same.
The question that I have, Syndergaard, is why would you suggest “The Dude Abides”? I mean, “The Dude Abides” isn’t a nickname and no one is going to use that. “Captain Underpants” isn’t good either because no one wants a nickname that has to do with underwear.
Thor — you’re terrible at coming up with nicknames and you shouldn’t suggest anymore unless you can come up with a good one.
The jerseys from the Players Weekend will be sold by MLB and the proceeds will go to the Youth Development Foundation.
