The New York Yankees have acquired right-handed prospect, Matt Frawley, to complete the April 17th trade of Johnny Barbato.

The New York Yankees have announced that they have completed the trade from April 17 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. After originally sending them Johnny Barbato, the player to be named later is a right-handed prospect in Matt Frawley.

Frawley was selected out of Purdue University in the 17th round of last year’s June Amateur Draft and the 21-year-old has already gotten off to a great start to his professional career.

In 37 career relief appearances in Pittsburgh’s short-season Class-A affiliate, last season and Single-A affiliate this season, Frawley owns a 2.66 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 33.1 innings of work featuring four saves. In 2017 alone, the righty has allowed an opponent’s slash line of .184/.234/.307 and a stellar ERA of 1.66.

He will stay in the South Atlantic League as the Yankees assigned him to Single-A Charleston so it will be interesting to see if he, his low-90s fastball and curveball can keep it up as he transfers organizations.

Barbato, on the other hand, has surrendered four homers in 15 appearances for the Pirates this season while posting a 4.84 ERA. In 13.0 innings for New York last season, he gave up 11 earned runs on 13 hits.
