With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the New York Yankees would be smart to have a reunion former Yankee Eduardo Nunez.
The trade deadline is rapidly approaching the New York Yankees and one area where they could certainly use an upgrade is at the hot corner.Current Yankees third baseman Chase Headley started out the season with a red-hot month of April but has cooled off significantly since then. Since May 1, Headley is slashing .179/.238/.232 with no home runs and only five extra-base hits.
This atrocious fall off for Headley has left many fans calling for the organization to call-up Gleyber Torres to the Bronx, which would be a viable option if Torres had a little more seasoning in Triple-A first.
If the Yankees do plan on making a serious run in October this year they will certainly need some extra support at third base and San Francisco Giants third baseman Eduardo Nunez could be a very serious option to this glaring hole.
You may remember Nunez as an average role player for the Yankees a few years ago who seemed to always be around. Since then, the 29-year old has improved heavily and looks like he could be a big help in the Bronx.
Nunez’s breakout year came last season when he received his first all-star selection and finished the year slashing .288/.325/.432 with 16 home runs and 67 RBI’s. He has not been too shabby in 2017 either.
In 58 games this season playing for the Giants, Nunez is slashing .297/.321/.406 with four home runs, shaping what could possibly be one of the greatest offensive seasons of his career.
Due to him playing for the Giants, who are struggling to figure it out this season, Nunez will most likely be up for grabs as we approach the trade deadline this July and the Yankees need to pounce on the opportunity.
The price tag on the third baseman should not be too high considering he will become a free agent in 2018 and the Bronx Bombers certainly have the assets to make a potential deal happen.
There may not be a better option or the Yankees as they look to improve their infield heading into the dog days of summer and aim for a serious run at postseason baseball.
A reunion with Eduardo Nunez is the answer and the Yankees need to make a deal happen as long as the price tag is not too steep.
