After a long stint on the shelf, outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will rejoin the New York Mets on Saturday as the 26th man.
The New York Mets will activate prized outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on Saturday after a DL stint that had him sidelined since Apr. 27. Cespedes was out with a strained left hamstring, and once that had healed, he suffered from reoccurring pains in his right quadriceps.
The Mets are scheduled to play a doubleheader in Atlanta tomorrow, and it has been reported that Terry Collins plans on only using Cespedes in one of the two games. The Cuban slugger played left field for St. Lucie on Thursday, but went 0-for-4.
Since Cespedes will be the 26th man on New York’s roster for the doubleheader, a roster move won’t be made until the two games are complete.
The MLB allows each team participating in the doubleheader to have one extra man on their team until the two games are over. Cespedes hurt his hamstring against the Braves, the team he will be coincidentally playing against tomorrow.
New York currently holds the No. 4 seed in the NL East. The Mets, now with their superstar outfielder back, will look to pass both their division rivals in the four-game series, and gain some ground on the Washington Nationals.
