A man many New York Mets fans will recognize is on pace to take the mound tonight against them for the Texas Rangers — Dillon Gee.

The 12th ranked New York Mets‘ lineup will be seeing a familiar face opposing them on the mound tonight in former 21st round pick and 2014 Opening Day starter, Dillon Gee, who is now a member of the Texas Rangers.

Gee was a partial or full-time member of the Mets rotation from 2010-2015, producing a 4.03 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 40-37 record over 110 starts during that span.

So while he did garner a 3.62 ERA over 199.0 innings pitched in 2013, his overall time in Queens was nothing to boast about, and that issue came to a head in 2015 — his final year with the team.

Gee struggled mightily that season, to the tune of a 5.90 ERA, while allowing over 12 hits a game. This eventually led to his demotion to the Mets’ minor leagues, where he continued his problems with a 4.11 ERA over 17 starts across all three levels of the minors.

He became publicly upset with how he felt he was treated by the Mets organization, and opted out of his contract following the 2015 season.

Gee then landed with the Kansas City Royals as a reliever and spot starter, where he held a 4.68 ERA over 125.0 innings in 2016, leading to his current gig in the same role with the Rangers.

During his time with the Royals, Gee spoke to Newsday about his former team in New York, saying, “That’s all in the past. It is what it is. It was an unfortunate chain of events and that’s the way it goes sometimes. This is a tough business. I saw that last year, and I’m glad to be here today.”

Gee has pitched in just two major leagues games with the Rangers this season, both as a reliever, allowing four runs over 6.2 innings, although they’re all unearned. At Triple-A Round Rock, though, he’s produced a 3.88 ERA over 9 starts.

Jacob deGrom is scheduled to face Gee at Globe Life Park in Arlington Texas at 8:05 p.m. this evening, as the right-hander looks to come back strong after a four inning, seven earned run performance last time out against the Milwaukee Brewers.
