Golden Auctions has sold the marriage certificate from New York Yankees OF Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe’s marriage.

The marriage certificate from former New York Yankees OF Joe DiMaggio’s marriage to Marilyn Monroe has been sold for $122,500.

DiMaggio, who played for the Yankees from 1936 to 1951, married Monroe on Jan. 14, 1954, three years after he retired from the Yankees. The certificate was purchased on June 3 by an entity from Golden Auctions. Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of Golden Auctions, said that the marriage certificate was originally acquired from a private collector who had purchased it from the Yankee Clipper’s estate auction in 2006, according to Nicole Pelletiere of ABC News.

“It is a historic document that ties together the golden age of Hollywood and baseball Royalty,” Goldin said. It is an important piece of American history showing the marriage of the most popular baseball player of the era to the most popular actress perhaps of all time.”

The document was described by auctioneers as being in “very good condition with just light toning to the edges.” The Some Like it Hot star and the Hall of Famer were married for nine months. The Yankee Clipper reportedly sent roses to Monroe’s grave multiple time a week after she died in 1962 from a barbiturate overdose. DiMaggio died in 1999 after battling lung cancer.

Golden Auctions has sold DiMaggio memorabilia in the past, including his Yankees uniform from 1942.
