As The New York Yankees are coming off of a road trip in which they went 3-4, news from down on the farm finds Greg Bird continuing to work to get back to major league form.
The first baseman has been getting work in at High-A Tampa at both first base and at designated hitter. According to Nick Flammia, Bird batted third as the DH yesterday in his fourth rehab start, just barely missing a home run during yesterday afternoon’s contest.
As things continue to be rather dismal at first for New York, Bird’s return may not come at a better time. Hopefully some time to recover is exactly what Bird needed to get back to form.
One of the biggest (pun intended) phenomenons in baseball today is that of the epic nature of Aaron Judge’s batting practice performance. And yesterday, Judge did not disappoint.
In fact, he may have improved his status from epic to legendary by launching not one, but two balls off of the famous hotel windows deep in center field in Toronto before their disappointing 3-2 loss on Sunday.
As if you didn’t need anything else to convince you of how special of a year he is having, here’s another little statistical nugget for you to enjoy about Judge.
This season, Judge has the same number of steals (5) on the season as Brett Gardner. You read that correctly, the same dude who is leading the planet in long balls in 2017 also has the same number of swiped bags as the guy who has 222 career major league steals.
With Mike Trout going down on the disabled list and if Judge can keep up this tremendous level of production both with the bat, the glove and even on the base paths, we could absolutely be in store for a historically magical 2017 campaign.
Finally from the “something you don’t see every day” department, the Yankees have traded within their division. Yesterday, reports surfaced that the New York Yankees traded utility infielder Ruben Tejada to the Baltimore Orioles for cash consideration.
Heading into the season, there was a competition between Tejada and Ronald Torreyes to fill the back up infield spot. But as you know by now, Toe got the job and Tejada is now a Bird.

That says a lot about Gardner. He should have twice as much as Judge. Maybe that's why we don't score enough runs some days. He has to use his legs to get into scoring position more often. That is why he was signed to an extension.
