There are several reasons for New York Giants fans to be excited this season. One of them is to see if the Giants can improve on their 11-5 record and wildcard berth from a season ago. The other is a chance to see the Super Bowl XLII team honored at the 10 year anniversary.
The 2007 New York Giants that knocked off the 18-0 New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, 17-14, are arguably the most beloved Giants Super Bowl team, and the 10-year reunion will be a must-see event.
At the Landon Collins first ever charity softball event on Saturday which was organized by Joe Ruback, a.k.a. License Plate Guy, former Giants offensive tackle and two time Super Bowl champion Kareem McKenzie said he got a call from the Giants the other day about having the reunion in September.
That would mean it would have to take place at the Week 2 the Giants home opener on Monday Night Football against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 18, since it’s the only home game the Giants have in September.
Having a 10-year anniversary on the same day as your home opener may seem odd considering your home opener is an event all by itself.
But it would make sense to have it on this date, because having it on Monday Night Football would allow Tom Coughlin who is now the Executive VP of football operations with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the chance to fly in on Monday to attend the anniversary. After all the reunion would not be complete without Coughlin in attendance.
The Giants have yet to officially announce the date of the anniversary yet, but based on what McKenzie said and announcement could come shortly.
As for the festivities at Landon Collins event, team Jacobs which consist of players from Super Bowl XLII and XLVI defeat team Collins which consist of current Giants in dodgeball. In the home run derby, safety Andrew Adams won it by hitting 15 home runs. As for the softball game between Team Jacob and Team Collins, it ended in an 11-11 tie. Adams hit two more home runs in the game for team Collins, and Mario Manningham hit two home runs for team Jacobs.
The best part of the night was that the event raised $30,000 for the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation.
