The trial date has been set for Charles Oakley’s incident at MSG while New York Knicks president Phil Jackson attended draft workouts in L.A.
There’s been a new development in the situation between Charles Oakley and the New York Knicks.According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Oakley rejected a plea deal to have the charges dropped stemming from the February incident at Madison Square Garden.
Instead, Oakley will fight those charges in court. The trial date is set for Aug. 4.
The infamous MSG incident involved Oakley fighting with security guards as he was forcibly removed from the game.
The Knicks legend didn’t have a lot to say after his court appearance. He was upset about his hometown Cavs getting whooped in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Phil Jackson and the rest of the Knicks front office were checking out more potential draft picks this week.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Jackson and general manager Steve Mills were in Los Angeles to attend at least two recent agency workouts.

Jackson, GM Steve Mills and other Knicks execs attended the Roc Nation agency workout and the BDA agency workout in Los Angeles this week, per DraftExpress, which also attended the workouts. Draftees signed to Roc Nation include Villanova’s Josh Hart and Florida State’s Dwayne Bacon. Draftees signed to BDA include Duke’s Frank Jackson, who recently underwent surgery, and Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes. Members of the Knicks front office are expected at the CAA Pro Day in California later this week. CAA draftees include Knicks target Frank Ntilikina (who will not attend the workout), Louisville’s Donovan Mitchell, Duke’s Amile Jefferson, who worked out for the Knicks, and Oregon’s Jordan Bell and Duke’s Luke Kennard.
It’s a good sign that Jackson and his team are making the rounds regarding scouting all prospects available.
The team has three picks and a poor history in the draft, so it’s important that they do their due diligence.
Rumored target Justin Jackson is reportedly scheduled to be working out for the team on June 13.
This all comes one day after a report that the Knicks talked to the Portland Trail Blazers about obtaining one of their first-round picks. New York is probably looking for prospects to take with that pick.
