Yoenis Cespedes could return to the team next week after a few more rehab starts, hopefully, so say the New York Mets.

The New York Mets, who have been without star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes since April, are looking to have him for their series against the Texas Rangers, according to Jon Heyman.

The plan for Cespedes is to participate in more rehab this weekend in Florida and be the designated hitter in Texas before returning to the outfield in the following series against the Braves in Atlanta.

Cespedes took live batting practice in Port. St Lucie earlier this week after suffering a setback last weekend.

“He’s making strides,” manager Terry Collins said via MLB.com. “We’re getting close.”

Cespedes is hitting .270 with six home runs and 10 RBIs in 18 games this season. Fans, players and coaches simply cannot wait until the club’s best hitter returns from this long shelf stint.
