The New York Yankees came all the way back from down 5-0, but the comeback fell short in Toronto by the final of 7-5.

The Yankees threatened early in the top of the first when Brett Gardner lined a shot into left center field, and off the glove of outfielder Ezequiel Carrera. Gardner would advance to third on the error. Francisco Liriano would wiggle his way out of the inning without giving up a run retiring the next three batters in order.
Michael Pineda has been hot for most of this season, but that didn’t stop Toronto from dropping the hammer on him in the bottom of the first. Josh Donaldson crushed his fourth homer of the year to left field to give the Jays an early 1-0 lead. But they weren’t done there, Justin Smoak also hit an absolute bomb to right field for a two-run homer. That was Smoak’s 13th on the season. The Yankees got out of the inning down 3-0.
The Blue Jays added to their lead in the bottom of the third on a Justin Smoak sacrifice fly extending the score to 4-0. Smoak was responsible for 3 of the first 4 runs scored by the Jays.
The Yankees would remain scoreless through the first four innings, and the Blue Jays didn’t fail to capitalize on the then quiet Yankees offense. Luke Maile scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth adding a run to their lead. The Blue Jays exited the fourth with a 5-0 lead.
The fifth inning would be Michael Pineda‘s last, his final line would be 5IP 10 Hits 5 Runs. It was a very poor outing for the Yankees right-hander.
But the Yankees were not willing to lay down just yet. The Yankees added two runs in the bottom of sixth when none other than Aaron Judge delivered another bomb into right-center field. That homer was Judge’s 18th of the year and 40th RBI. The score would then be 5-2. However, the sixth inning outburst wasn’t yet over. Starlin Castro also lined a two-run homer into the right field seats. Castro’s homer brought the Yankees to within one run and a score of 5-4. Starlin’s homer was his 8th of the year.
Francisco Liriano exited in the sixth inning. His final line 5IP 2 Earned Runs.
Josh Donaldson wasn’t too happy with letting the Yankees get back into this one, so he took matters into his own hands. Donaldson crushed his second homer of the night off of a Jonathan Holder hanging curveball. The Blue Jays would add on another to give them a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Yankees quickly answered in the top of the seventh. Matt Holliday lined a shot over the Center Fielder Kevin Pillar‘s head. Holliday would advance to second with a double and Aaron Judge would score from first. The lead was again cut to 1
The Back and forth affair continued in the bottom of the seventh. Devon Travis lined a sacrifice fly into left field adding on one more run for the Blue Jays. The score would then be 7-5 which would end up being the final score.
The Blue Jays take the second game of a four-game set by a score of 7-5.
JUDGE REFUSES TO SLOW DOWN:
Aaron Judge crushed his 18th homer of the season tonight. Judge is on pace for 56 home runs, and it would not be completely stunning if he gets there. Judge seems to be a generational talent that will not be going away anytime soon.
GLEYBER WATCH:
Gleyber Torres has not gotten off to a hot start in Triple-A. He is hitting .207 in the first nine games of his career. Torres is apparently being groomed to play third base for this year’s New York Yankees.
