The New York Yankees took an early lead so naturally this would be the day that Brett Gardner reaches a major milestone.

So many haters though this day would never come. So many people thought that Brett Gardner couldn’t hang with the New York Yankees.

Well, he’s done it. Gardner has joined an elite group by getting hit no. 1,000 off Marco Estrada in the top of the fourth inning.

Gardner lined a classic single up the middle for hit no. 1,000 after getting his 999th hit with a double in the first inning.

He’s also riding a four-game hitting streak and is seeing the ball better. By swinging earlier in the counts, Gardner is getting better quality pitches and doing great things with them.

Gardner, the longest-tenured Yankee, may have taken a little bit longer to reach the 1,000 hit plateau, but he has certainly earned it.

So far this season, Gardner ranks 5th in the American League in runs (36) and 8th in both slugging percentage (.537) and on-base percentage plus slugging (.905).

The Gold Glove left fielder decided to get his big hit against the Blue Jays on a day where Gary Sanchez is getting all the attention for launching two home runs.

But that’s okay. Gardner doesn’t need all the attention but he certainly deserves it with his career.
