Don’t forget about it folks: Terry Collins and his 2017 New York Mets will be postseason bound this October.

Pulling one out of Broadway Joe’s playbook, I guarantee the New York Mets will make the postseason.

While 2017 has not gotten off to an ideal start for the Amazins’, the pessimistic attitude surrounding the team will soon quickly flip.

Yes, I am writing this article as the Mets sit five games under .500 and eight and a half behind the first-place Nats (one better after the Jay Bruce walk-off), but give them time. Considering the run this team went on in both 2015 and 2016 to jolt into the postseason, with over 100 games left in the young season, the Mets are just fine.

The Mets have played the majority of this season without:

On top of this, Lucas Duda, TDA and Asdrubal Cabrera all saw DL time.

This injury-riddled Mets team has somehow managed to stay striking distance to the .500 mark without their two best pitchers, and best hitter.

Reasons To Be Optimistic:

The Mets Are Flat-Out Hitting

Without their best player, the Mets are averaging over five runs a game, and are doing so without being solely reliant on the long ball.

When Cespedes returns to the already dangerous lineup, there is no reason this offense can not keep the Mets in the game.

Starting Pitchers Are Finding Their Groove

It appears as though Jacob deGrom has returned to his ace status, and that is not good news for the rest of baseball. Jake has the potential to maul down any lineup and in his recent starts has done just that.

Zach Wheeler is not only getting better each and every start, he has been extremely consistent as well. Even a rusty Zach Wheeler is tossing quality starts, just wait until it all clicks.

The Dark Knight is rising. Coming off yet another significant surgery, of course Harvey has struggled thus far. Can you really blame him? He is a different pitcher than he once was, and he has to learn to adapt his game. But, little by little Matt’s velocity, command, and movement is returning to form. In his most recent start, we were shown flashes of the Dark Knight, being able to rear back and get back-to-back strike outs to get out of a jam. That has been something Matt has struggled to do, and that was a huge step.

A confident Matt Harvey is someone no lineup wants to face and the Dark Knight is coming.

So, that is three out of five starting pitchers that have the ability to shut down any lineup.

But what about the other two starters?

Well, starting next week, the Mets will add not only Steven Matz back to the rotation, but also Seth Lugo. This not only upgrades the rotation, but should be a boost to the bullpen as well. Robert Gsellman will be added to the pen, and adding two quality starters that can get deep into games will give the pen a much-needed rest.

Amed Rosario

While Amed is clearly ready to be called up to Queens now, his time will come in July. This will give the lineup, the fans, and the clubhouse a spark. Rosario is extremely talented and is going to be an upgrade on both sides of the ball. July can’t come soon enough.

They Have Done it Before

In 2015, the Mets held a record of 36-37 at one point, and won the division.

In 2016, the Mets held a record of 60-62 at one point and jolted into the playoffs.

This current Mets team has more time, and talent than the previous two years. If they can stay close to a playoff spot and within striking distance of the Gnats in August, just wait until they add a Cy Young caliber pitcher in Noah Syndergaard back into the rotation.

The 2017 New York Mets will make the postseason.

Don’t be surprised. Be ready.
