A night after the offense failed the New York Yankees, it returned to early-season form against the Baltimore Orioles in game two of the series.

The Yankees used a barrage of home runs from Brett Gardner and Matt Holliday to help propel them to victory in the treacherous confines of Camden Yards.

Not to be overlooked, Luis Severino doled out another incredible start, silencing the Orioles bats and the entire Baltimore crowd.

While receiving high praise from heavy hitter Lorenzo Cain of the Kansas City Royals, Severino came out and gave his all to keep the Orioles in a skid.

Gardner and Holliday gave Severino an early lead by launching solo home runs in the top of the first inning. Gardner launched a 90 MPH fastball off of Chris Tillman into the right field seats while Holliday took advantage of a hanging slider to do his damage.

That would end up being all Severino would need to get the job done. He sat down the Orioles in order in the bottom of the first, including striking out Manny Machado looking.

While adding another run in the second on an Aaron Hicks single, the Yankees added two more in the third. Another Holliday solo shot was followed up a few batters later by the struggling Chase Headley sneaking a single through the right side to score Aaron Judge.

Their offense did not slow down in the fourth, where Gardner took a 3-1 fastball deep to right field. Two more runs were brought in on a booming Judge double, putting the Yankees up 8-0 on their division rivals.

Severino ran into some difficulty in the bottom of the sixth inning, facing the heart of the Orioles’ order. With the bases loaded, the O’s took back a run on a Trey Mancini infield single.

The threat was quickly broken up as Severino struck out Joey Rickard swinging.

Severino’s night ended with a standing ovation after 6.1 innings of work while allowing one run and striking out eight. He lowered his season ERA to 2.93 and significantly improved over his last start in Baltimore, where he allowed four runs in a loss.

While the Yankees bullpen struggled again, they were still able to squeak out an 8-3 victory.

This Day in Yankees History:

May 30,1995: Mr. November gets started with his career, notching his first hit off of Cleveland Indians pitcher Tim Belcher.

Derek Jeter’s first hit came in the fifth inning in the form of a solo home run.

And so, a legend is born. There were many more home runs where that one came from.

What’s Next:

The Yankees look to wrap up the series with the Orioles with a victory. They’ll send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound with the hopes of a repeat performance from his last start against the Oakland  A’s.

Tanaka is 5-4 on the season but has been bouncing back with each start.

The Orioles will counter with Kevin Gausman, the 26-year-old right hander. He is 2-4 on the season with a 6.17 ERA.

Last time out against the Yankees, Gausman pitched six innings and gave up five runs during the marathon 14-11 walk-off victory for the Bombers.

First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM and can be seen on WPIX. The call will be on the radio on WFAN 660/101.9 and WADO 1280.
