One thing New York Giant general manager Jerry Reese has shown throughout his tenure is the ability to find talented running back in the mid and late rounds and he may have done it again with Clemson rookie Wayne Gallman.
In 2007 he drafted Ahmad Bradshaw in the seventh round, and last year he took Paul Perkins in the fifth round. Both Bradshaw and Perkins were the New York Giants most productive back at the end of their rookie seasons and helped push the team into the playoffs.The Giant believe their fourth round pick Wayne Gallman has the potential to do the same.
Gallman is a strong talented and versatile back that is also good in pass protection. In his three seasons at Clemson, Gallman rushed the ball 676 times for 3,429 yards and scored 36 touchdowns. He also caught 65 passes coming out of the backfield.
In addition to his impressive stats, he also has the experience of having played in back to back National Championship games against Alabama. It’s not easy for a rookie to come in and succeed in the bright lights of the country’s largest market. So the experience of playing in back to back championship games will serve him and fellow rookie Dalvin Tomlinson well.
Although Paul Perkins will be the starter, the Giants plan to use Gallman often and feel he can be a major contributor. He has already made a good impression on the Giants coaching staff during rookie minicamp. So as the season progresses, look for him to get more and more playing time. Giants fans are hopeful that he and Perkins can have the same success that Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs had years ago.
The idea of having Gallman teamed up with Perkins is one of the reasons the Giants did not aggressively pursue LeGarrette Blount after the draft.

If Gallman can help get the Giants average above 4.0 yards per carry to go along with the Giants high-powered passing attack led by Eli Manning, then there’ no telling what this offense can do.
Gallman is already a national champion, and now he’s looking to help Big Blue win their fifth Lombardi Trophy.
