The New York Yankees have called up top prospect Gleyber Torres to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following an impressive Double-A stint.

The New York Yankees are promoting top prospect Gleyber Torres from Double-A Trenton to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where the 20-year-old will be one step away from the Bronx.

Torres slashed .273/.367/.496 in 32 games with the Thunder this season including five home runs and an OPS of .863. He played in 19 games for New York in spring training and went 13-for-29 (.448) with two home runs and six doubles while posting a .931 slugging percentage.

MLB Pipeline’s second-best prospect played in 163.1 innings at shortstop to kick off 2017. He also registered 47 at second base and 56 at the hot corner. Torres has yet to make a single error.

Scouts believe his bat will be able to produce 20-plus home runs a season when he fully develops into a full-time Major League with the hands, range and arm strength to play shortstop for a long time. If he tears apart the Electric City the way he has dominated since coming to the Yankees’ system in 2016, a promotion to the pros this season shouldn’t be out of the question.

Brian Cashman may have dealt Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs to help clinch them their first title since 1908, but I’m sure everyone can appreciate the value of their return. Gleyber Torres may be able to be a cornerstone to many future championships that the Yankees will secure very shortly.
