When you take an offensive lineman late in the draft, you want that player to have an edge and be a little nasty. The New York Giants believe they have that in their sixth round pick in Adam Bisnowaty.
The 6-foot-6, 304 pound Adam Bisnowaty is the only lineman the New York Giants took in this year’s draft, which was a bit of a shock considering how the offensive line has struggled over the last few seasons. He is a very powerful lineman as his 23 reps on the bench press would indicate.Although he’s only been involved in the rookie minicamp last week, the Giants like what they’ve seen so far.
Rookie minicamp consists of position drills, and walk throughs with little to no contact. But the Giants coaches have had to tell Bisnowaty to go a little easy during the first day of minicamp.
Basically, the rookie offensive lineman is eager to hit someone.
He’s a longshot to be a starter this season, but don’t tell him that because he’s very confident in his ability and he should be. He was a four year starter at the University of Pittsburgh, and in his junior and senior seasons he was named First Team All-ACC while playing left tackle.
Though it might serve him best to play right tackle or guard at this level since he’s not athletic by NFL standards, with coaching and time he’ll be able to make a smooth transition to a different position.
General Manager Jerry Reese said prior to the draft that they’ll do some experimenting with the offensive line this spring and summer and their sixth round draft pick will be heavily involved in the experimenting.
Regardless of how much he plays this season, his presence will add toughness and nastiness to Big Blue.
