Infield prospect Thairo Estrada is making strides in the New York Yankees system and is officially making a name for himself.

Thairo Estrada isn’t the sexiest name in the New York Yankees farm system and often gets overlooked, but he has proven to be one of the most consistent offensive threats for the Double-A Trenton Thunder.

After going 3-for-4 with a run scored on Thursday against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the 21-year-old has reached safely in 16 of his last 17 contests dating back to April 19. In that span, he owns a .394/.440/.576 with two home runs.

That has helped the infield prospect climb to the top of the Eastern League rankings in many offensive categories. Estrada is second in batting average (.347), second in on-base percentage (.424) and is one of only 14 hitters across the league to own 40 or more hits.

All this has not only earned him a spot on MLB Pipeline’s latest Top-30 Yankees’ prospects list, but he’s undoubtedly stripping the “under-the-radar” title from his name and showcasing the player we all know he could be: a solid defender with good range, quick hands, a strong arm, excellent pitch recognition and patience at the dish. It’s tough to forecast where he sits in the organization’s plans, but with an MLB ETA of 2019, there’s time to figure that out.
