After being unable to complete a three-game series sweep in KC, the New York Yankees are looking to start a brand-new winning streak against the Tampa Bays.

The New York Yankees, coming off a series win in Kansas City, will travel to St. Petersburg to take on the Tampa Bay Rays for a three-game weekend series at Tropicana Field.

New York is 11-6 against American League East opponents in 2017 and the last time they traveled to the Trop, they dropped the season-opening series two-games-to-one from April 2-5. When the Rays came to the Bronx, however, the Yankees defended their home turf by sweeping their division foe.

Luis Severino will get his eighth start of the 2017 season, coming off the shortest outing of his career — aside from his ejection in Toronto — against the Houston Astros on Sunday. He took a no-decision despite surrendering three earned runs over 2.1 innings of work while surrendering six hits. The 23-year-old righty retired just six of the 16 Houston batters faced and was removed with the bases loaded and one out in the third inning.

Going for the Rays will be Erasmo Ramirez, who will make his second start of the 2017 season after LHP Blake Snell was demoted to Triple-A Durham. In 12 appearances this season (one start), the 27-year-old owns a 2.92 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 24.2 innings. His lone start came on April 20, when he held the Detroit Tigers to one run on two hits over five innings of work.

Lineups:

Player To Watch: Corey Dickerson

Dickerson is on an absolute tear this season (.335/.382/.608) and is a bonafide Yankee-killer. In 24 career games against the Bombers, the 27-year-old is 27-for-91 (.297) with seven home runs and an OPS of .924. His .604 slugging percentage against New York is the second-highest among teams he has played 20 or more times against.

He has only faced Severino five times in his career and has recorded three hits including a double and a home run. Dickerson has also hit six of his nine home runs at Tropicana Field this season, so all signs point to yet another showcase for the native of Mississippi.

Star Bright:

After going 1-for-4 in Thursday’s loss to Kansas City, Starlin Castro ranks first in all of baseball in hits (55) and seventh in batting average (.351). He has also hit safely in 32-of-38 games and became just the 15th player in franchise history to record 55 or more hits within the team’s first 38 games.

This Day In Yankees History:

On May 19, 1990, with the Yankees and Royals tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the 11th, Don Mattingly launched a one-out double off Steve Farr to score Steve Sax all the way from first to give New York a 5-4 walk-off win.
