Seven straight losses. It’s a situation no Major League Baseball team wants to find itself in, especially a team that had World Series aspirations during the spring.

Though dark and gloomy, the season for the New York Mets marched on and with it brought baseball’s best player in Mike Trout and his Los Angeles Angels into Citi Field on Friday night.

Thanks to current ace Jacob deGrom, the Amazins are enjoying a “stop the bleeding” 3-0 victory.

deGrom went seven strong surrendering just four hits and no runs while striking out nine batters. His effort washed away the struggles of 2016 and brought back clutch deGrom moments, mainly his dominance in the 2015 MLB All-Star Game and the ALDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He found himself in deep trouble in the 7th-inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out, he came through by striking out his ninth batter of the game. Then, shortstop Jose Reyes bailed him out with what could be called the Mets catch of the season:

Leading off the bottom of the 7th-inning was the Mets best hitter, Michael Conforto, who smashed his 11th home run of the season to provide his team with the commanding 3-0 lead:

Jerry Blevins, Paul Sewald and Addison Reed (picking up save No. 5), finished the team shutout.

Curtis Granderson and Rene Rivera picked up the Mets first two rib-eyes in the first and sixth innings, respectively.

Mike Trout collected two singles on a 2-for-3 night.

Now sitting with a still ugly 17-23 record, the New York Mets can at least breathe and know the losing streak is over. Next up will be these very same Angels, game two of the series on Saturday night in Flushing.
