The New York Islanders’ front office faces some pressing questions as the 2017 Expansion Draft nears.

On Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet speculated that the Isles could send Calvin de Haan to Detroit in anticipation of the upcoming expansion draft.

Sensing that the Golden Knights would snatch de Haan if unprotected, the Isles would ship him to the Red Wings to at least garner something in return. The Carp, Ontario native impressed at both the the NHL level and currently, at the Worlds.

Would Garth Snow pull the trigger on this deal?

It’s just one of the many questions that Snow, in his eleventh season with the club, will face this offseason. Some of the others: Who will he leave unprotected? Will he trade for Matt Duchene? What will the defensive situation look like when October rolls in?

In IIHF action… Team USA defeated the Russians, 4-3, to finish atop their group and move on in the tournament. Isles forwards Brock Nelson (1 G, 2 A) and Anders Lee (1 G) both tallied crucial points in the win; The Germans knocked off the Latvians, 4-3 in the shootout, behind Dennis Seidenberg’s (1 G) strong efforts.

On May 17, 1983, the Islanders won their fourth consecutive Stanley Cup, a remarkable feat that has never since been accomplished. Mike Bossy tallied a remarkable 60 goals and 58 assists that season, as the club was named the Wales Conference champions and later, the recipient of Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Jason Chimera struggled at the start of the season, but as Matt Di Giacomo recently penned, he turned it around as the 2016-17 campaign progressed. Here’s the thing: he gets a pass because last season was his first with the club. But the Isles will need a strong effort from their high-scoring third liner if they desire to return to the playoffs.
