After losing four of their last five, the New York Yankees bounced back against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night with an impressive 7-1 victory at Kauffman Stadium.

The Bombers struck first in the top of the third when Gary Sanchez smacked a fastball thrown by Jason Hammel to straightaway centerfield with Chris Carter and Brett Gardner on base to make it 3-0, Yanks.

One inning later, Carter lifted a fly ball to left-center which was carried over the wall by the wind for a two-run jack. It was the fan favorite’s second home run of the season and it extended New York’s lead to 5-0.

As Yankees’ starter CC Sabathia dazzled to keep the Royals’ scoreless, his offense would give him some more run support in the top of the seventh inning. With Castro at second and Aaron Judge on first, Jacoby Ellsbury ripped a single to right field off Seth Maness to extend New York’s lead to 6-0.

Speaking of Sabathia, he went 6.2 shutout innings while only allowing five hits on 85 pitches. He ran into trouble in the seventh by loading the bases with two outs, but Tyler Clippard bailed the 36-year-old out by striking out Whit Merrifield to end the threat.

Matt Holliday would then tack on another run to make it 7-0 on a RBI groundout in the eighth before Clippard registered a scoreless bottom of the inning. Joe Girardi then called on Jonathan Holder to close things out and he did just, despite surrendering one run on a RBI groundout for Merrifield, that in order to put the Yankees back to 10 games over .500 with a 7-1 win.
