The New York Yankees will reportedly call up prospect Chace Adams to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for Monday’s start against Pawtucket.
Over the last couple weeks, New York Yankees right-handed farmhand Chance Adams has become a popular prospect among fans and it has been reported that he will take the final step before the Bronx.RELATED: Yankees Promote J.R. Graham To SWB
Multiple sources — including Joel Sherman of the NY Post and Josh Norris of Baseball America — have stated that the 22-year-old will head to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for his next start on Monday.
Adams has been downright dominating the Double-A level. Over six starts, he has given up just four earned runs over 35 innings (Eastern League-leading 1.03 ERA) while striking out 32 batters. Opponents are slashing .183/.275/.278 of the kid New York drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft.
He also made three relief appearances for the Yankees down in Tampa for spring training and allowed just one run to score in four innings of work. One aspect that Adams needs to work on, however, is his command.
Among the 35 pitchers with at least 30 innings of work or more this season at the Double-A level, Adams has walked the fourth-most (15). His 3.9 walk-per-nine-innings ratio in 2017 is also the highest throughout his three-year professional baseball career.
You can’t argue with results, though, and an incredible 20-2 record with a 2.00 career ERA is certainly helping climb up the system at a rapid pace.
His fastball averages around 92-94 mph and topped out at 95 last season. Adams’ slider comes out in the mid-80s, a changeup that has made strides over the last two seasons and a curveball that can be located well. Here are the grades:

All in all, this is a great opportunity for Chance Adams impress at the highest of stages before the big leagues. If he continues his surge and handles Triple-A hitters the way he has Double-A hitters, then a late-season call-up shouldn’t be excluded from the 2017 picture.
