May 8 is the anniversary of the Willis Reed game when the New York Knicks captain returned during Game 7 of the NBA Finals despite an injury.

One of the biggest moments in the history of the New York Knicks franchise came on May 8, 1970. For those who don’t know that’s the date of the famous Willis Reed game and today is the 47 year anniversary.

Reed returned for Game 7 of the NBA Finals, despite a torn thigh muscle, against the Los Angeles Lakers and inspired the Knicks to a 113-99 win.

Even though he only scored four points the Knicks captain logged 27 significant minutes and made his impact felt.

New York won their first championship in franchise history, and Reed was forever a legend.

Another day in Knicks news another Carmelo Anthony trade story. Don’t expect these to go away anytime soon.

Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports that “one person in touch with the Heat” doesn’t expect the team to pursue Anthony.

It might appear unlikely that the ten-time All-Star would accept a trade to the rebuilding Heat, but it’s still a better situation than the one he’s facing in New York. A real point guard, a talented big man, young talent, and a franchise that’s run like a well-oiled machine. That last part could entice Anthony.

Miami presents a much better trade partner for New York than the Los Angeles Clippers too. With their nice group of young talent and expendable skilled wing players, it’s a good match.
