In one of the most one-sided fights in pay per view history, Canelo Alvarez improved his record to (49-1-1, 34 KOs) thoroughly out classing Julio Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs) winning by unanimous decision on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Nevada.

The fight was so one-sided that you would be hard pressed to find one minute of a round that Julio Chavez Jr. won, much less a round as all three judges scored the fight a shutout for Canelo Alvarez (120-108).

According to Compubox numbers, Alvarez landed 228 out of 606 punches (38%) Chavez Jr landed a pathetic 71 out of 302 punches (24%).

Alvarez dominated the fight from the start as his quicker hands allowed him to land hard clean shots to Chavez’s head and body. In the fifth round, Alvarez rocked Chavez with a hard right that sent him reeling to the ropes and shortly thereafter Chavez’s nose began to bleed and in the seventh round his left eye began to swell. After that point, the only thing in question was would Alvarez win by decision or knockout.

Minutes after the fight was over, unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) made his way to the ring with his entrance theme music, “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes playing in what was reminisce of a WWE entrance.

Once he was in the ring he shook Alvarez’s hand and then the two announced that they have agreed to fight on Sept. 16 on HBO pay per view.

“Triple G, you are next my friend,” Canelo said in Spanish. “The fight is done. I’ve never feared anyone, since I was 16 fighting as a professional. When I was born, fear was gone.”

Triple G versus Canelo is the biggest fight that can be made in boxing, and it’s a fight that fans have been wanting to see for over a year. The debate of who is the better of the two will finally be decided in the ring.

The winner of the fight will not only be recognized as the best middleweight in the world, but they’ll also lay claim to being boxing’s biggest star.
