The New York Yankees will begin a three-game series against the World Champion Chicago Cubs this afternoon for the first time since 2013.

Prior to the game, Yankees pitchers Aroldis Chapman and Adam Warren will be presented with their 2016 World Series rings for their time last year with the Cubs.

Former Cub Starlin Castro will also be highlighted before the game with a small highlight package for the six seasons he spent with the franchise.

This afternoon, the Yankees will send Michael Pineda to the mound, who has been everything the club could have asked for to begin the season.

Last Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles, Pineda hurled 5.1 innings with no earned runs and notching eight strikeouts on the day.

This just continued Pineda’s hot start to the season where he is currently 3-1 while sporting a 3.14 ERA and 37 strikeouts.

Pitching for the Cubs will be right-hander Kyle Hendricks, who has struggled a bit out of the gates but looked sharp in his last outing against the Red Sox.

On Sunday against Boston, Hendricks only three hits through six innings of work, but one of them was a two-run home run to Hanley Ramirez.

However, the Cubs were still impressed by Hendricks’ overall command on the night and showing glimpses of his stellar season last year.

Lineups:

“The Sanchize” Is Back:

New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is back in the lineup on Friday for the first time since April 8, when he hurt his bicep against the Orioles.

Sanchez will be batting third in New York’s lineup this afternoon with hopes of returning to a Yankees lineup which has been surging as of late and making a solid contribution.

It’s too bad they just built a brand new scoreboard in left field at Wrigley because Sanchez is on a mission to take that bad boy down sometime this weekend.

This Day In Yankees History:

On this day in 1929, the New York Yankees acquired Red Ruffing from the Boston Red Sox. Ruffing would spend 15 seasons with the Yankees and go on to having a Hall of Fame career in the Bronx.
