Rough Night For Rafael
Rafael Montero, who was called up after Noah Syndergaard was placed on the disabled list, lasted just 3.2 innings tonight, letting in five earned runs on seven hits and three walks, while striking out four.
With Syndergaard expected to be out for at least two months, the Mets may be forced to have Montero play a big role in the MLB rotation, though tonight’s rough outing didn’t do him any favors.
What Else to Know From Tonight
T.J. Rivera had himself a night from the two hole, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, three RBIs and a home run in the first inning. Rivera was also a major part of the team’s comeback in the seventh, hitting an RBI double.
Curtis Granderson continued to show he may be coming out of his season-long funk, going 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk. He was intentionally walked before a bases loaded free pass for Wilmer Flores scored Michael Conforto as the eventual game-winning run.
The bullpen held up strong after the comeback, with Jerry Blevins, Addison Reed and Jeurys Familia shutting the proverbial door to the tune of three innings pitched, allowing just two hits total with two K’s.
