We recap the New York Yankees hot start, Gary Sanchez beginning a rehab assignment and Jake Cave being reinstated from the disabled list.

At the beginning of the 2017 season, the New York Yankees were off to an inauspicious start, going 1-4 in their first five games. But during the final game of their first series against the Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees clicked and since then have been an unstoppable force.

Returning home to the Bronx for the first time since going 8-1 on their last homestand, the Yankees took the first two games in a thrilling fashion. And after Saturday’s win against the Orioles, the Yankees are 14-3 in their last 17 games. Winning 14 of their last 16 resulted in the Bronx Bombers having sole possession of first place. But when was the last time the Yankees found themselves atop of the American League East?

With the Washington Nationals losing to the New York Mets on Saturday afternoon, the Yankees enter Sunday’s contest with the best record in Major League Baseball (.682 PCT). Their 15-7 clip has also matched their best 22-game start to the regular season since 2004.

Not only are the Yankees on a roll, but they’ll soon get catcher Gary Sanchez back in the starting lineup. Sanchez did one final test at the stadium on Saturday before preparing for his rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Yankees have surely missed having Sanchez in the lineup, but Austin Romine has really stepped up and potentially increased his trade value. Anyone would be lucky to have a catcher like Romine on their team. But having Sanchez back will make this current Yankees team just a little bit better.

Finally, the Yankees got some good news regarding their minor league outfielder Jake Cave. Cave was reinstated from the disabled list, but he’s not going to start with the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

The Yankees will take on the Orioles in the series finale, and they’ll send Jordan Montgomery to the mound. Wade Miley will start for the Orioles. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. and the game will air on the YES Network and WFAN 660/101.9 FM.
