Injuries continue to plague the New York Mets as Yoenis Cespedes goes on the DL with a strained left hamstring.
The New York Mets placed slugger Yoenis Cespedes on the 10-day disabled list on Friday due to a strained left hamstring.
Cespedes suffered the injury during Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. He hit a double to left-centerfield and after he rounded first, he pulled up limping about halfway to second base, according to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. He needed help getting off the field.
The Mets are expected to send the slugger to Florida for rehab. He could possibly get platelet-rich plasma injections.
Cespedes is hitting .270 and has six home runs and 10 RBIs this season. He joins a growing list of Mets players who are on the disabled list. Infielders Lucas Duda, Wilmer Flores and David Wright, outfielder Brandon Nimmo and pitchers Steven Matz and Seth Lugo are also on the disabled list.
The Mets recalled left-handed reliever Sean Gilmartin from Triple-A Las Vegas to take Cespedes’ spot on the roster. They are 8-13 and in last place in the NL East after losing six straight games.
