The New York Giants selected Ole Miss TE Evan Engram with the 23rd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft on Thursday night in Philadelphia.

Mock drafters had speculated that GM Jerry Reese would not bypass the offensive line after only adding one free agent (D.J. Fluker) this offseason. But after Utah’s Garret Bolles was taken 20th by the Denver Broncos and TE O.J. Howard went off the board to Tampa Bay shortly before that, Engram was their man.

Engram is 6-foot-3, 238 and is considered more a big wide receiver than a TE. With the Giants signing Rhett Ellison to fill the blocking TE role, Engram will provide the breakaway, seam-splitting playmaker they so desperately need at the position.

Just imagine the weapons Eli Manning now has on Sunday. There’s Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, Sterling Shepard and now, rookie Evan Engram.

As long as Jerry Reese has a plan for offensive tackle, this is one scary unit.
