With the New York Yankees coming off a loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates, here’s the news and notes you need to know.

In Saturday, April 22, 2017’s edition of New York Yankees Bronx Bomber Buzz, we take a look at injury updates regarding two of the club’s biggest stars in Didi Gregorius and Gary Sanchez.

First off, shortstop Didi Gregorius has begun his rehab assignment in Tampa with the Yankees Single-A affiliate. The left-hander went 2-for-3 in his first game with the team tonight with two singles.

Gregorius hasn’t played a single game in the big leagues so far this season due to a right shoulder injury he sustained with Team Netherlands during the World Baseball Classic.

In 2016, the left-hander slashed .276/.304/.447 with 20 home runs and 70 RBI’s. The Yankees will be heavily anticipating Gregorius’ return to the field in the Bronx.

The next injury update comes in the form of Gary Sanchez, who is also taking the next step in his return to the field.

According to Marly Rivera of ESPN, Sanchez will swing a bat for the first time since suffering a bicep strain on Sunday, April 8 against the Baltimore Orioles.

This is promising news for the Yankees considering how pivotal the 24-year old was to the team’s lineup in 2016.

News also came out on Friday that Sanchez has the ninth best-selling jersey in all of baseball, being just ahead of reigning American League MVP Mike Trout.

“It’s an honor, really, for the fans to support us the way they do,” Sanchez told the Daily News. “I think it shows the kind of work I’ve done for the team, but at the same time I also think I’ll be seeing some of my other great young teammates on that list soon as well.”

That is all the top news regarding the New York Yankees today. Don’t forget the Yankees look to rebound against the Pirates tonight at 4:05 pm ET on YES.
