The NFL released the 2017 regular season schedule today and the New York Giants are slated to play four times on national television.
The New York Giants finished 11-5 in 2016 and will play a second-place schedule in 2017. In addition to home-and-away games vs NFC East foes Dallas, Washington and Philadelphia, they will play the AFC West, the NFC West and the three other second-place finishers in the NFC last season: Detroit, Tampa Bay and Arizona.
Big Blue will open the season with back-to-back night games, first at Dallas in Week 1 followed by the home opener the next Monday against Detroit. They will travel to Denver in mid-October for another Sunday night game and will play the Redskins in Landover on Thanksgiving night.
This will be the fifth time in six years the Giants will begin their season against the Cowboys, and their fifth consecutive opener on the road.
“We open up in Dallas on a Sunday night, which will be a big game in the division,” Head coach Ben McAdoo said. “It will make training camp exciting and interesting for the players. They know we’ll have to be at our best on Sept. 10…I know we have three of our first four on the road, but you can only handle them one at a time,” McAdoo said. “Right now, all we have to do is focus on Dallas. We’re getting ready yesterday.”
In addition to the Denver trip, the Giants will travel to San Francisco (Nov. 12) and Oakland (Dec. 3) as well as Arizona (Dec. 24).
“We’ll be okay. We’ll make the best of that situation,” McAdoo said. “We have the trips spread out. No concerns there.”
The Giants once again will have their bye in the middle of the season.
“The middle of the season is a good time for the bye,” McAdoo said. “But it depends on how things shake out with the health of your football team. But being in the middle of the season is generally a good proposition.”
