Thanks to a solid outing from Michael Pineda as well as some great offensive support, the New York Yankees pull their win streak to seven games.

The New York Yankees put their power bats into use on Sunday night to blow past the St. Louis Cardinals and keep their hot streak rolling.

The offensive spark began in the bottom of the second inning when an Aaron Judge triple scored third baseman Chase Headley from first base.

The triple was then followed up by a two-run home run by Greg Bird which put the Yankees up by a pair heading into the third. The home run for Bird is a great sign for the left-hander, especially considering his deep early season struggles so far.

The Yankees’ power bats would strike once again in the bottom of the fifth inning when Aaron Hicks launched a solo home run down the right-field line which just cleared the foul pole.

New York would pile on some more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to run-scoring doubles from both Austin Romine and Ronald Torreyes. An Aaron Hicks sacrifice fly would cap off the scoring barrage at nine runs.

These runs would be more than enough for the Bronx Bombers to pull out the victory, thanks to yet another great outing from starting pitcher Michael Pineda.

The right-hander only surrendered two earned runs throughout seven innings of work, while striking out six batters as well and only allowing one walk.

Dellin Betances would then relieve Pineda with a scoreless eighth inning and would go on to hand the ball to Bryan Mitchell who finished off the ballgame with a big lead.

Bye Bye Birdie:

New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird broke out of his early-season slump on Sunday night with a monster blast to the right-center field bleachers.

The blast was estimated at 429 feet with an exit velocity of 107.5 m.p.h. Not to mention, prior to this at-bat Bird was just 1-for-26 on the season with his last home run not coming since October 1, 2015.

Hopefully, this could be the start of something new for Bird and the Yankees, hoping for many more home runs to land in those seats throughout the season.

What’s Next:

On Monday night, the New York Yankees will begin a series with the Chicago White Sox, entering with a seven-game winning streak.

Taking the mound for the Yankees will be Jordan Montgomery, who will be looking to build on his solid big league debut last week against the Tampa Bay Rays.

In his first career start, Montgomery only surrendered two earned runs and struck out seven Rays in just under five innings of work.

For the White Sox, Derek Holland will take the mound who has had a solid start so far to begin the season. Holland has only surrendered two earned runs through 12 innings pitched.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET on YES Network and can be caught on the radio at WFAN 660/101.9 FM.
