Despite his recent struggles at the plate, New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi still believes in first baseman Greg Bird.

It has been a brutal return to the field for New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird despite his monstrous run during spring training. In seven games, Bird is currently sporting a very weak .038/.167/.077 slash line.

Despite this struggles and looking completely lost at the plate, Yankees manager Joe Girardi does not seem too concerned with the young first baseman. He believes Bird will be able to swing his way out of it.

“I think the best way to get him out of it is for him to play.” Girardi told Sweeny Murti of WFAN. “If I didn’t believe in him I wouldn’t put him out there…I believe he’s going to hit.”

While we are still only two weeks into the season, Bird’s plate appearances have not shown any reason to not be concerned. He has been late on pitches that he would have put into the upper deck in 2015.

While Girardi does not seem to be concerned, you just have to hope Bird’s issues are mental and there is not an injury aggravating and holding him back.
